Chunk-n-Chip Cookies - BOO-Yah!!

BOO-Yah!!
Food: Ice Cream Sandwiches (Diddy Riese style)
Price: $4 or more per sandwich?
Experience: Friendly and cheery!

When you walk up to the window you can pick from a list of suggested combos or you can make your own sandwich. Carrie choose from the list and picked "Chocolate Haven" a Chocolate Brownie cookie with Vanilla Bean ice cream. Nick went "off menu" and ordered Snickerdoodle Cookies with Kauai Pie ice cream (a coffee and macadamia nut ice cream). The folks in the truck had friendly smiles, asked us about the pregnancy (and we are clearly pregnant), and thanked us for coming.
  • C- I went with basic flavors (chocolate and vanilla). It was served with warm cookies in a brown paper wrap. The vanilla ice cream melted fast, but it was fun to eat. I took a bite of Nick's sandwich and thought it was messing with my palate. But on the last bite of chocolate brownie cookie (sauced in melted ice cream) I realized that my cookie also had spice to it, a nutmeg kind of taste. I was just a bit disappointed because I wanted more chocolate from the chocolate brownie cookie. And I think I had food envy because Nick's sandwhich looked so good.
  • N- I was craving coffee ice cream so I was excited to see the special flavor in the window. Like a little kid, I was also giddy to see the freshly baked cookies placed behind glass between the order and pick-up windows. The snickerdoodle cookies were delicious and the Kauai Pie ice cream was awesome. The only downside about the ice cream was the size of the macadamia nuts. I did have a few marble shaped nuts in the sandwich. The sandwiches were served on a sheet of parchment with a spoon. Kind of messy, but it didn't matter because the dish was gone in a matter of minutes.
Overall we enjoy the concept and look forward to trying different combinations.

Some Mini Reviews Coming Up

We apologize about the scarcity of our posts. We've been a bit preoccupied due to a baby that is now a week late! Now, while we wait between contractions, we'll post some mini-reviews of some of the trucks that we've been to in the past few weeks.

The Lime Truck - Fresh California Cuisine

Lime green is hard to miss
Food: Fresh California Cuisine (order anything with carnitas)
Price: Average
Experience: Fun!

On Wednesday we ventured out to the Irvine Food Truck lot and our first stop was The Lime Truck. We ordered the Lamb Sandwich, Carnitas Fries, and Cactus Pear Limeade.
There is something fun about the food and crew of the Lime Truck. It was clear Daniel (CEO/Visionary) recognized Nick as a regular.

The menu changes daily
  • C: The Carnitas Fries - Don't mistake this fry dish as a side, it's a meal! And it's too good to share so just embrace it. I always like to try the major components solo before jumping into the whole dish. this tells me the quality I can expect. The fries were flavorful and crispy and the pork was moist. Together with the toppings, it made for a filling and delicious dish that I barely let Nick try. The Cactus Pear Limeade had a very mild flavor, I was expecting more kick.
  • N: The Yum Yum Lamb Sandwich - With my first bite, I thought this take on the gyro was surprisingly hot. It just turned out my bite was loaded with sriracha. The ground lamb patty was an odd fit in the pita bread, but it sure was tasty. The cool homemade tzaziki sauce provided a balance between the heat from the marinated lamb and sriracha.

The following day we headed to Central Park West in Irvine for a Cluster Truck event. This time we were in the mood for dessert so we got a Strawberry Basil Limeade and Caramelized Bacon rice crispy treat. Yep, bacon and marshmallow. Sounds so wrong, but tasted so right.
It's impossible to not need more of this.
  • C: I could only eat about 3 bites of the bacon crispy treat, because it was too rich and too decadent for more. The strawberry flavor of the Strawberry Basil Limeade was good, but it tasted a little watered down and lacked the light kick I like from limeades.
  • N: I need a tray of the caramelized bacon rice crispy treats. This is a dessert that can launch it's own truck. I would follow these treats wherever they go. They are that good.

The Lime Truck was just one of the 9(!) trucks at the Teller Ave. lot in Irvine. Every Wednesday from 11am-2pm at 18678 Teller Ave. many of the food trucks of Orange County come together and serve office workers and foodies some of the tastiest dishes available for a reasonable price.

Louks To Go Authentic Greek Gourmet

Food: Tasty traditional Greek
Price: Average
Experience: Pleasant

We abandoned our plan to eat at the Grill 'em All truck when it was clear all of Orange County had the same idea.
200 burgers < people in line!

A glow-less Louks!
Nick used his fancy phone and found out that Louks to Go was near the Orange Circle.
We arrived to plenty of parking and only a few passer-bys.
We ordered the Greek Salad with chicken, the Burrito Gyro with beef and the Spicy Feta fries.
While we waited for our food we discovered that the menus were brand new. More than half of the "specials" would not be available until Monday.
A chatty fan walked up and we discovered by accident that the Louks to Go truck had some trouble getting back to a schedule after their contract at Disney's Glowfest.

The Food:
  • C: The Greek Salad was tasty with a simple balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The capers and olives were too salty for me. The chicken on the skewer was juicy and flavorful, and over all it hit the spot. The fries were crispy, not greasy, and served as a great base for the feta cheese.
  • N: The beef Burrito Gyro was also very tasty. The hunks of skewer beef were pretty hefty, and including the fries, the poor pita was about to burst! The spicy feta added a nice kick to the gyro as well. The spicy feta fries would be a perfect thing to share between two fans. I couldn't handle the extra spicy feta by myself as it was already used in the Burrito gyro. I can't wait to try the Lamb Burger!
Overall, the experience was quite pleasant as there was literally no line. The Orange Circle is a great location for mobile food vendors. There are quite a few bars within the circle and plenty of foot traffic from the antique shops and boutiques nearby. We are looking forward to the Lamb Burger and the Watermelon salad.
